Civil liability for the use of Artificial Intelligence systems and solutions in the light of recent European Union regulatory initiatives.

The European Parliament has been extremely productive (and proactive) in recent months on AI issues (with its recent “October 2020 Framework on AI”). Also to better understand the background of the Artificial Intelligence Act enacted on 21 April 2021 by the EU Commission, the essay by Prof. Avv. Alessandro del Ninno analyzes the specific issue of civil liability in the use of Artificial Intelligence systems, as addressed by Parliament European in its Resolution of 20 October 2020 with which it approved a series of recommendations to the EU Commission on a civil liability regime for Artificial Intelligence, also proposing the adoption of a Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council on liability for the operation of artificial intelligence systems which with its 14 articles aims to introduce a coherent discipline with respect to a delicate issue such as liability for damage deriving from the use of AI systems.
