EU Commission launches online consultation platform on European Digital Identity Wallets.
The European Commission launched an online consultation platform on European Digital Identity Wallets. In particular, the Commission stated that it launched the online platform to gather feedback from interested parties to shape the future of European Digital Identity Wallets in line with its proposal for a trust framework for a European Digital Identity, which will be available to all EU citizens, residents, and businesses in the EU.
In addition, the Commission stated that it is calling on Member States to work on a toolbox that would address the technical aspects of the European Digital Identity Wallets, in full respect of the current legislative discussions in the EU Parliament and the EU Council, which are taking place in parallel, and in alignment with their outcome.
Moreover, the Commission highlighted that a common toolbox is expected to be released in September 2022 and that the online platform will remain open to comments throughout the legislative negotiations to make European Digital Identity Wallets a practical tool for all.
