USA: National AI Commission Act introduced to House of Representatives, commission to review approach to AI regulation.
On June 20, 2023, Congressman Ted W. Lieu announced the introduction to the U.S. House of Representatives, along with Congressman Ken Buck and Congresswoman Anna Eshoo, of a bipartisan and bicameral bill for the National AI Commission Act. In particular, Congressman Lieu explained that the national commission that would be created pursuant to the bill would be tasked with:
The Commission would be composed of experts from civil society, government, industry, and labor, with a demonstrated background in a number of areas, such as computer science or a technical background in AI.

- reviewing the current approach of the US to artificial intelligence (AI) regulation;
- making recommendations on any new office or governmental structure that may be necessary; and
- developing a risk-based framework for AI, allowing for the identification of AI applications with unacceptable risks, high or limited risks, and minimal risks.
