COPYRIGHT LAW

AGCOM: amendments to the new regulation on copyright protection.

The Board of the Italian Communications  Authority unanimously approved the launch of a public consultation on amendments to the new regulation on copyright protection. The authority's competence has in fact been extended by the "Relaunch" Decree to cases of illicit dissemination of content on the net through instant messaging services that use, even indirectly, users' telephone numbers. The same Decree has also restored the possibility for Agcom to impose penalties of up to 2% of turnover against those who will not comply with orders for the removal of illegally disseminated content. The amendments put forward in public consultation aim to prevent the dissemination of digital works made available in violation of copyright, with the same procedures and guarantees that have marked the Authority's action since the entry into force of the Regulation. The speed of intervention times, set in just 12 days, has been one of the strengths of the activity carried out so far by Agcom, as recognized by the entire creative industry chain.
