Amendments to the GDPR introduced by the Digital Omnibus.

As part of the conference “Amendments to the GDPR Introduced by the Digital Omnibus”, organised by Paradigma, Alessandro Del Ninno, Attorney-at-Law and Partner at FIVERS Law and Tax Firm, delivered a full-day training session examining the proposed revision of the General Data Protection Regulation within the broader European initiative to simplify the EU digital regulatory framework.

The session explored the main amendments envisaged under the Digital Omnibus and their legal, organisational and operational implications for businesses, corporate groups, data controllers and processors, Data Protection Officers and corporate functions involved in privacy governance.

Particular attention was devoted to the evolving definition of personal data and the criteria for identifiability, the distinction between anonymisation and pseudonymisation, legal bases for processing, and the reuse of personal data for compatible purposes, research and innovation. The programme also addressed proposed simplification measures concerning transparency obligations, the exercise of data subject rights, Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs), accountability documentation and personal data breach notification procedures.

A further area of focus concerned the potential implications of the proposed amendments for contractual relationships between controllers, processors and external service providers, with particular emphasis on data processing agreements, the handling of pseudonymised datasets, cooperation obligations and the integration of privacy compliance, information security and vendor management processes.

The conference provided an opportunity to examine, through practical examples, operational checklists and guidance on reviewing organisational compliance frameworks, how companies can prepare for the evolving European regulatory landscape while balancing opportunities for administrative simplification with the need to maintain appropriate standards of personal data protection, risk management and organisational accountability.
